Creating a Character Bust: From Ideation to Final Render
The Gnomon Workshop has released Creating a Character Bust: From Ideation to Final Render, a guide to 3D character creation recorded by Naughty Dog’s Colleen Larson.
The intermediate-level workshop provides over three hours of video training in ZBrush, Maya, Substance 3D Painter, Marvelous Designer and Marmoset Toolbag.
Sculpt, texture and render a portfolio-worthy 3D character
In the workshop, Larson shares her complete workflow for creating a 3D character suitable for use in a professional portfolio, from ideation and reference gathering to final render.
She demonstrates how to sculpt the character in ZBrush, create realistic clothing using Marvelous Designer, create hair using Maya’s XGen toolset, and how to texture the character using Substance Painter, before rendering the final images and videos in Toolbag.
The workshop uses 3D Scan Store’s Free Base Mesh and this commercial 3D head model.
