Free tool: P4Houdini builds version control into Houdini
SideFX has made the P4Houdini plugin integrating Perforce‘s version management tools into Houdini available for free.
The plugin, previously a paid add-on, makes it possible to check files in and out directly inside Houdini, without having to use Perforce’s Helix Core GUI.
It is available with current daily builds of Houdini, as part of the SideFX Labs tools.
Check files in and out of version control from within Houdini
Developed by technical artist Paul Ambrosiussen, previously the lead at SideFX Labs, P4Houdini integrates Houdini with Perforce’s Helix Core version control system.
It makes it possible to check files in and out of version control directly within Houdini, as well as to add new files and submit changelists.
The add-on can also scan Houdini .hip files for dependencies and revert .hip and .hda files to previous versions.
It comes with a Python API, making it possible to script additional actions.
Perforce’s technology is used in a wide range of industries, including game development, previs and virtual production, by indie and AAA studios.
Price and system requirements
P4Houdini is available free as part of the optional SideFX Labs tools that ship with Houdini 20.5.304+.
Helix Core is priced on enquiry, but is free for teams of five or less. You can find pricing and system requirements for Houdini itself in this story on Houdini 20.5.
