SideFX has released its 2022 Houdini games reel: a three-minute compilation of the best recent games and real-time projects created using the procedural 3D software.
As you’d expect, there’s a lot of nice in-game footage, from titles ranging from stylized indie strategy games to photorealistic shooters and racers like Rebellion’s Sniper Elite 5 and Polyphony Digital’s Gran Turismo 7.
However, from a geek’s point of view, perhaps the most interesting part is the in-software footage in between the clips, which shows the procedural tools that their developers created in Houdini to generate art assets.
They range from Sega’s procedural building generator for real-time strategy title Eiketsu Taisen to Io Interactive’s fire FX for Hitman 3, by way of Playground Games’ terrain for Forza Horizon 5.
