Epic Games and Project Nature – aka Quixel technical artist Nils Arenz – have made all of Project Nature’s vegetation asset packs for Unreal Engine available for free.

The collection comprises 21 asset packs: over 550 models representing “over 75 varieties of plant species”.

A range of plant types from around the world, many with wind and character animation systems
For the past two years, Arenz has steadily released a range of vegetation assets on the Unreal Engine Marketplace: content which is now available for free.

The asset packs cover a range of temperate, Mediterranean and tropical plant species: grasses and herbaceous plants are well-represented, but there are also a range of shrubs and trees.

The plant asset packs support Project Nature’s wind animation and character interaction systems, include LODs, and come with 4,096 x 4,096px texture maps – some also include 8,192 x 8,192px maps.

Other Project Nature assets now available free include packs of bark and ground materials – grass and forest floors – plus stylised low-poly grass and ivy.

System requirements and availability
The Project Nature vegetation asset packs are available free via the Unreal Engine Marketplace. They are compatible with Unreal Engine 4.19+. Supported UE4 platforms include Windows, macOS and Linux.

The marketplace usage rights permit assets not created by Epic Games itself to be exported to other game engines and DCC software, although obviously, some features require UE4 to work.
