FXhome ships HitFilm Pro 13.0
FXhome has released HitFilm 13.0, the latest version of its editing, compositing and effects software, integrating Foundry’s 3D camera tracking technology from the Nuke product family.
The update, which was released during Siggraph 2019, also adds new colour grading and keying tools, and makes it possible to lock layers and tracks, and to generate masks from the editor timeline.
New 3D camera tracker integrates the tech behind Nuke’s CameraTracker node
The biggest new feature in HitFilm Pro 13.0 is the new integrated 3D camera tracker.
Based on the technology behind NukeX and Nuke Studio’s CameraTracker node, the integration provides a new native tracking and match-moving environment within HitFilm, with support for estimating lens distortion.
The existing integration of mocha, BorisFX’s planar tracker – the HitFilm edition of which also comes with its own 3D camera solver – has also been updated, although the changes are mainly bugfixes.
The update also introduces several features from Imerge Pro, HitFilm’s new ‘RAW image compositor’, including its intuitive Tone Coloring grading tool and a Highpass Sharpen effect.
There is also a self-descriptive Remove Stock Background effect for compositing stock footage without the need for manual keying work, and a new intensity slider when applying LUTs to a shot.
Workflow improvements include the option to lock layers and tracks in both the editor and composite shots; and to create masks directly from the editor timeline, rather than switching between the two views.
Pricing and system requirements
HitFilm 13.0 is available for 64-bit Windows 8+ and macOS 10.12+. It costs $299. At the time of posting, HitFilm Express, the free version of the software, was still on version 12.3.
