Computer Graphics Student Awards 2011 now open

This year’s Computer Graphics Student Awards are now open for entries.

First launched by online mentoring site cgCoach.com last year, the awards offer students the chance to win a total of $50,000 in hardware, software and magazine subscriptions – and perhaps more importantly, to land one of 18 internships at VFX studios worldwide.

Places are available at studios in Europe, Canada, Australia, Singapore and India, including Double Negative, MPC, Prime Focus, Pixomondo, Image Engine and Fuel VFX.

Well worth a punt if you’re in your final year at college. Full details below.

PRESS RELEASE
The Computer Graphics Student Awards is back again for 2011. The event showcases and rewards excellence in computer graphics for students and recent graduates around the world. To date, the event has already helped kick-start the careers of 11 digital artists and we are proud to announce that we are now accepting entries for 2011. To qualify for entry you need to have been a computer graphics student who studied between June 2009 and June 2011. Qualified students are encouraged to submit their Demo Reel Video along with 2-5 supporting images to be judged by our industry judging panel.

We’ve made a number of improvements to the awards this year. The biggest improvement is that the event is now global. We have also split the event into three clear categories: Student of the Year, Studio Internships, School of the Year. All entries are automatically entered into the Student of the Year category, but it’s now elective to be in the running for one of our 18 internships in the Studio Internship category.

This year the list of sponsors is even more impressive with contributions from Pixologic, Stash Magazine, The Foundry, Side Effect Software, Corel, Luxology, Workstation Specialists, Pilgway, Smith Micro, 3D Artist Magazine, 3D World Magazine, and Digital Tutors all offering up prizes.

Leading VFX companies Double Negative, Prime Focus, MPC, Pixomondo, Image Engine and Fuel VFX are all on board offering up a total of 18 internships in Europe, Canada, India, Singapore, and Australia.

There will be 10 finalists selected for the Student of the Year category. 1 Runner-Up and 1 Winner will then be selected from these finalists. All winners will share in over $50,000USD worth of hardware, software and subscriptions. There will be 42 Finalists and 18 Winners for the Studio Internship category.

The deadline for submissions is 3rd June, 2011. Finalists will be announced 15th June, 2011 with the Winners announced 29th June, 2011.
