Adobe releases Photoshop 27.11
Adobe has released Photoshop 27.11, the latest version of the image-editing software, used in the entertainment industry for concept art, texture editing, and retouching renders.
The update introduces Enhance Edge, a new AI-powered option to reduce color fringing in masks generated by Remove Background, helping to generate cleaner cutouts of hair and fur.
Enhance Edge improves masks generated by Remove Background, but costs credits
The main new feature in Photoshop 27.11 is Enhance Edge, a new option available in the contextual task bar to refine the masks generated by the Remove Background feature.
It uses RGBA diffusion to eliminate color fringing from the edges of a mask, improving results when removing the background of an image behind hair or semi-transparent materials.
Unlike the Remove tool itself, it requires generative credits, consuming 20 credits per use, so if you want to use it regularly, you will probably need a separate Firefly subscription.
Changes to third-party AI models
It is also now possible to use the GPT Image 2 AI model to generate images from text prompts when using the Generate Image feature, or to make edits to an image using the new Prompt to edit feature introduced in Photoshop 27.10.
Adobe recently expanded the list of third-party AI models available in its products to 33, with Photoshop users also having access to models from the Gemini and FLUX families, and to models created by Topaz Labs, which Adobe acquired last month.
Workflow and performance improvements
Workflow improvements include the option to rename or delete entries in the Recents tab of the New Document dialog.
In addition, Adobe is now using real-world usage data – from users who haven’t opted out of data collection, at least – to improve the performance of Photoshop on Windows.
According to the release notes, the result is a “measurable performance improvement on common workflows”, although Adobe hasn’t put a figure on the performance boost.
Price and system requirements
Photoshop 27.11 is compatible with Windows 10+ and macOS 14.0+. In the online documentation, it is also referred to as the September 2026 release.
The software is rental-only, with Photography subscription plans that include access to Photoshop costing $29.99/month or $239.88/year.
Single-app Photoshop subscriptions cost $34.49/month or $263.88/year.
