Tutorial: Fantasy Creature Grooming in Houdini
The Gnomon Workshop has released Fantasy Creature Grooming in Houdini, a guide to creating film-quality VFX, recorded by freelance CG Supervisor Sohrab Esfehani.
The workshop provides over four hours of video training in Houdini and the Arnold renderer.
Master professional Houdini grooming techniques for professional VFX production
In the workshop, Esfehani covers the entire process of creating a fur groom suitable for a “hero-level Hollywood VFX creature” in Houdini.
He begins by setting out the fundamental principles of grooming, emphasizing the importance of gathering and analyzing reference material to ensure the groom is grounded in reality.
The workshop then explores how to create a solid template to build on, structuring the scene in a way that makes sense in a real visual effects production environment.
Esfehani explains how to manage your Houdini workflow efficiently, creating a groom with a range of details, from fine strands of hair to more complex patterns and textures.
