Reallusion launches AI motion-capture service Video Mocap
Reallusion has launched Video Mocap, an AI motion-capture service integrated into iClone, its real-time character animation software.
Developed in partnership with AI mocap provider QuickMagic, the online service extracts the motion of actors from video clips to generate editable animation inside iClone.
The service is available through an integration plugin compatible with iClone 8.63, released earlier this week, with video processing charged on a pay-per-use basis.
AI video mocap for full-body or upper-body animation, integrated directly into iClone
There are now a range of online platforms that use AI to extract the motion of actors from video footage, many of which we’ve covered on CG Channel in the past.
Most export data in standard formats like FBX, but iClone Video Mocap streamlines that workflow, integrating directly into iClone via a dedicated plugin.
iClone’s editing tools can then be used on the animation generated, to clean up common issues like foot slippage.
Users have a choice of full-body or upper-body capture, which includes finger tracking, but the service doesn’t support facial capture, which is provided in iClone via a separate paid add-on.
Processed online and charged on a pay-per-use basis
Videos are processed online, with the work charged on a pay-per-use basis.
Each processing operation – which can process up to 60 seconds of video for a single character – consumes 250 DA Points, the online currency used in Reallusion’s e-stores.
That’s equivalent to $2.50, although there is a minimum spend of $10 when buying DA Points.
Available with iClone 8.63
The new plugin itself is a free download, and is compatible with iClone 8.63, the latest version of the software, which was released earlier this week.
Other than adding support for iClone Video Mocap, it’s mainly a bugfix release, although it does feature updates to FBX export.
Price and system requirements
The iClone Video Mocap plugin is compatible with iClone 8.63. The plugin itself is a free download; processing video clips is charged on a per-use basis.
iClone itself is compatible with Windows 10+. New perpetual licences have a MSRP of $599.
