The Gnomon Workshop has released Creating Stylized Characters for Production, a guide to character design workflows in ZBrush, Maya and Substance 3D Painter, recorded by freelance artist Carol Cornils.
Discover time-saving character creation workflows in ZBrush, Substance 3D Painter and Maya
In the intermediate-level workshop, Cornils reveals her complete workflow for creating a production-ready stylised character from a concept image: in this case, one created by artist Diego Oliva Monardes.
Topics covered include blocking out the base sculpt in ZBrush, using ZRemesher and the software’s other topology tools to create clean surfaces, and how to create geometry hair brushes with good UVs.
Cornils also shares material mixing techniques in Substance 3D Painter, and renders the character in Maya.
Throughout the workshop, Cornils reveals the shortcuts she uses to speed up her daily workflow, and provides her tips on how to present the finished character in a way that makes it stand out in a portfolio.
Viewers of the workshop can download project files including the blocked-out character, a production model with 1k texture sets, a high-topology version for texture baking, and the Maya scene used for rendering.
