BorisFX releases Mocha Pro 2020.5
Boris FX has released Mocha Pro 2020.5, the latest version of the planar tracking software, improving performance when tracking very deep or wide-angle shots.
The update, which was released as part of the firm’s virtual NAB 2020 event, also adds support for Flame’s GMask Tracer nodes, and speeds up rendering of motion blur in mattes by “up to 4x”.
Other Boris FX releases from NAB 2020 include Silhouette 2020.5, the latest version of its rotoscoping software, and Silhouette Paint, a new paint and rig removal plugin for major compositing applications.
Mainly a performance and workflow release
New features in Mocha Pro 2020.5 include support for the GMask Tracer format in Autodesk’s Flame. Mocha Pro’s planar tracking data can be converted to 3D axis data on export to Flame.
However, Boris FX describes Mocha Pro 2020.5 as focusing on “core functionality and support over flashy new features”, with most of the changes improving performance in existing tools.
The range of shots that the software can track successfully has been expanded, with the software now able to handle “deep, wide-ranging perspective shots”, as shown at the start of the video above.
Clips rendered the same size as the original source clip will now match its panning and zooming; and frames from the source can now be substituted for any unrendered frames.
Rendering motion blur in mattes is now “up to 4x” faster.
The update also extends features added in Mocha Pro 2020, including the option to fill gaps when painting with the new Area Brush, and “much deeper” control over colour management with OpenColorIO.
Pricing and system requirements
Mocha Pro 2020.5 is available now, and is compatible with a range of common compositing and editing software, including After Effects, Flame, Fusion and Nuke.
It is priced according to host application, with new licences costing from $695 to $1,495. Subscriptions cost from $295/year to $595/year.
