Boris FX has released Mocha Pro 2022, the latest version of its planar tracking software, adding native support for Apple M1 processors, After Effects multi-frame rendering and VFX Reference Platform 2021.

Mainly a performance and standards-based update
Mocha Pro 2022 is primarily a performance and workflow update, with Boris FX’s press release prioritising speed boosts and standards compatibility over new features.

Key changes include native support for the M1 processors in Apple’s current Macs, After Effects’ experimental multi-frame rendering system, and for VFX Reference Platform’s CY2021 spec.

In addition, render speed has been increased by “up to 40%”.

Improvements to the Insert Module and PowerMesh export
Workflow improvements include support within the software’s Insert module for PowerMesh, the new system for tracking organic and curved surfaces introduced in Mocha Pro 2021.

The change streamlines the process of mapping images to PowerMesh-tracked content, removing the need for precomps or reverse stabilisation.

It is also now possible to export PowerMesh vertex position data as a single Nuke tracker node.

There are also other quality-of-life improvements to the Insert Module, dopesheet and to tracking workflow: you can find a full list of changes via the links below.

Updated 26 April 2022: Boris FX has released Mocha Pro 2022.5.

The update adds a new set of preprocessing tools: non-destructive effects like blur, contrast, denoise, sharpen and gamma adjustments that can be applied to footage before trying to solve tricky shots.

Workflow improvements include a new right-click menu for the Surface tool for making quick adjustments; and the option to use hand-drawn open splines when using the Lens Module to correct lens distortion.

Pricing and system requirements
Mocha Pro 2022.5 is available for Windows 8+, RHEL/CentOS 7+ Linux and macOS 10.14+.

Integration plugins are available for After Effects and Premiere Pro CC 2014+, Media Composer 8+, Nuke 8+, Flame 2020/2021, Fusion Studio 8+, Silhouette 2020+ and Vegas Pro 14+.

A new licence costs $695 for the Adobe, Avid or OFX plugins, $995 for all the plugins, or $1,495 for the standalone edition plus all of the plugins.
