Chaos backs the Blender Development Fund
V-Ray developer Chaos has begun backing the Blender Development Fund.
Chaos’s Gold membership guarantees at least €30,000/year in funding for the open-source 3D software: roughly half the salary of a full-time Blender developer.
A mark of Chaos’s renewed commitment to Blender
By the standards of the current corporate backers of the Blender Development Fund, Chaos’s is a mid-sized donation.
The largest are Epic Games, semiconductor firm Qualcomm, and VR headset developer Pico, whose Corporate Patron sponsorships guarantee at least €240,000/year.
They are followed by the major GPU and CPU manufacturers: AMD and NVIDIA contribute at least €120,000/year, and Intel at least €120,000/year.
However, it is a mark of Chaos’s recently renewed commitment to Blender.
Last week, the firm released V-Ray 7 for Blender, re-establishing an official integration between Blender and the production renderer.
Chaos becomes the second major renderer developer to back Blender development after OctaneRender developer Otoy, which currently contributes €120,000/year.
