Autodesk has released Mudbox 2027, the latest version of its digital sculpting software.
The release notes read, in full: “Welcome to Mudbox 2027. This release includes minor updates.”
The sixth consecutive update with no new features listed
Although Autodesk did previously put out more substantial releases, Mudbox 2027 is now the sixth consecutive annual update with no new features listed in the release notes.
At this point, it seems pretty clear that while the software is being maintained – Autodesk does update it to run on current operating systems – it’s never going to get any new functionality.
The cost of subscription has also begun to rise again, after falling last year: an annual subscription now costs $105/year, up $5/year, although monthly subscriptions are unchanged.
Pricing and system requirements
Mudbox 2026 is available for Windows 11, RHEL/Rocky Linux 8.10/9.7, and macOS 14.0+. The software is rental-only, with subscriptions costing $10/month or $105/year.
