Boris FX releases Continuum 2026
Boris FX has released Continuum 2026.0, the latest version of its set of effects plugins for compositing and editing software.
The release revamps PixelChooser and Primatte Studio, Continuum’s matte-generation and chromakeying systems, and adds AI features including automatic masking of parts of the face.
PixelChooser: new compositing modes and AI features
The PixelChooser – the matte generator integrated into most Continuum effects – gets an overhaul in Continuum 2026.
Users get six new modes defining where a matte is applied in the composite stack: Pre, Post, Both, Stacked Composite, Alpha Masked, and Alpha Composite.
There are also new AI-based tools, available both inside PixelChooser and as standalone effects.
BCC+ Face ML automatically masks individual facial features – like eyes, eyebrows, lips, mouths, teeth and skin – and tracks them through a shot, speeding up digital makeup and beauty work.
BCC+ Matte Refine ML adds detail to the edges of mattes, particularly for hair and fur.
Primatte Studio: redesigned and GPU-accelerated
Primatte Studio, Boris FX’s blue- and greenscreen keying system, is now GPU-accelerated.
The revamped version, BCC+ Primatte Studio, also features a new keying window in the FX editor, with access to AI denoising and Continuum effects like Light Wrap and Color Link.
New AI-powered transitions
There are also two new transitions: BCC+ Jump Cut Fixer ML and BCC+ Depth Wipe ML.
As the name suggests, BCC+ Jump Cut Fixer ML smooths out jump cuts, using optical flow to dissolve seamlessly between two shots.
BCC+ Depth Wipe ML uses AI-generated depth maps to wipe from foreground to background, and is capable of creating a range of stylized effects, as shown in the video above.
Updates to other Continuum tools
Particle Illusion, Continuum’s 2D and 3D particle effects system, gets new Reverse Animation and Advanced Interpolation options for finer control over how particles traverse paths.
There are also performance and workflow updates to existing effects like BCC+ Scanline and BCC+ Lens Blur, and to existing AI-based tools like BCC+ Retimer ML and BCC+ UpRes ML.
