Check out Blender crowd-creation tool Procedural Crowds Pro
Tools developer Difffuse Studio has released Procedural Crowds Pro, a new edition of its Procedural Crowds crowd-generation add-on for Blender.
The release adds more advanced features to the software, including new options for controlling the look and position of individual crowd characters
A quick way to add large background crowds to Blender scenes
Released last year, Procedural Crowds populates Blender scenes with 3D crowds for animation, motion graphics or simple VFX projects.
It comes with over 50 3D scanned characters with a range of clothing types and skin tones, or users can import their own custom 3D character from Blender.
Crowd characters can be generated along editable guide curves, or inside regions on a surface within a scene, with users able to adjust their spacing and orientation.
The crowds generated can be stationary – for example, the audience at a concert, or in a stadium – or animated, following paths, or using simple avoidance behaviors.
The add-on comes with built-in idle and movement animations, but users can import their own custom motions, including from online libraries like ActorCore and Mixamo.
Difffuse Studio describes the add-on as being intended for distant shots, enabling users to generate large crowds quickly, rather than for close-up work.
New in the Pro edition: per-character control and new randomization options
New features in Procedural Crowds Pro include the option to control characters in the crowd individually, swapping out their models, or rotating them independently.
A new Teams tool makes it possible to assign a main color to characters’ clothing while still retaining some random variation: for example, to create crowds at sports events.
There are also new options for generating crowds standing in groups, or walking along random paths.
Price and system requirements
Procedural Crowds is compatible with Blender 3.6+. The Standard version costs $18; the Pro version costs $45 for a single license, with discounts for bulk purchases.
