Oldify instantly ages your ZBrush character sculpts

3D scanning specialist 3D Scan Store has released Oldify, a new ZBrush tool that enables users to age character sculpts by applying readymade wrinkle layers.

The asset, which was announced on 1 April, is either one of the most detailed April Fools we’ve seen, or a very neat way to generate good-looking character variations.

Age character sculpts with wrinkles taken from real-world scans
Described by 3D Scan Store as a “character ageing kit”, Oldify is a ZBrush .ztl file containing 10 full-face wrinkle layers and three high-frequency skin textures extracted from 3D Scan Store’s library of facial scans.

Users also get corresponding 8K albedo and facial maps in PSD format.

To apply them to a sculpt, users wrap 3D Scan Store’s free base 3D head model to their own character, using ZBrush or a specialist tool like Wrap, then project the wrapped mesh onto the sculpt.

It is then possible to apply the Oldify wrinkles in layers, blending the layers to customise the results.

The skin texture layers can be used to apply pores and the fine creases typical of ageing skin.

You can see the results on a number of human and humanoid heads, both male and female, on 3D Scan Store’s blog post, and on the Oldify product page on the 3D Scan Store website, via the links below.

Pricing and system requirements
Oldify is supplied as a ZBrush .ztl file. The high-frequency skin texture layers require ZBrush 2022.0.2+.

Personal licences have an MSRP of £59.99 (around $79); commercial use licences start at £259.98. At the time of writing, Oldify is available at a launch discount.
