Foundry discontinues Mischief
Foundry has discontinued Mischief, its digital sketching software.
Existing users have until 31 December 2019 to contact Foundry support to obtain a permanent activation key. The old Mischief online gallery will also be deleted on 31 December.
An unusual digital sketching tool whose technological innovation exceeded its commercial potential
Acquired by Foundry from original developer Made By Mischief in 2014, Mischief was an unusual, intuitive drawing tool.
However, despite features like a near-infinitely scrollable and zoomable drawing canvas, the software failed to achieve any real penetration in the concept art and illustration markets.
Before its official discontinuation, work on Mischief had already effectively been suspended, with no updates to the product or social media channels since 2016.
However, its underlying ADF technology – the basis for that infinite canvas – has been implemented in other Foundry products, including Kanova, its experimental VR sculpting software.
Users have until 31 December 2019 to obtain permanent activation keys or retrieve online assets
According to a message on the old product website, any assets in the old online Mischief gallery will be deleted on 31 December 2019.
Foundry has also emailed users to say that they have until 31 December to contact its support team to obtain a permanent activation key if they wish to keep using the software.
