Computerinsel has released PhotoLine 20, the latest update to its sub-$100 image-editing tool, adding support for non-destructive filter effects, LUTs and a range of workflow improvements.

Full non-destructive filter editing; support for LUTs
One major change in PhotoLine 20 is that all of the effects and filters in the software can now be applied non-destructively by means of Dynamic Filter layers, its equivalent of Photoshop’s adjustment layers.

Previously, only selected adjustments, like Gaussian blur and sharpening, could be applied non-destuctively.

There is also a new Match Colors adjustment (above), which automatically matches the colour palette and lighting of two images, speeding up the process of compositing elements from one into the other.

In addition, the software now supports LUTs, in both .3dl and .cube formats, plus “various types of ICC profiles”, for professional colour-management workflows.

Graphic designers get support for vector pattern fills, plus a range of new options for controlling gradient fills

Workflow enhancements and improved PSD support
There are also a number of workflow improvements, including a checkbox in the Layer attributes panel for inverting the selection for a layer mask or clipping layer.

The Copy Brush, Healing Brush and Remove Brush get new options to improve image source selection in layered documents, including the option to select the active layer and all those below it, or select all layers.

In addition, layers can now be filtered by layer type, or searched by layer name.

Import and export of PSD files has also been improved with PhotoLine now supporting Smart Objects and Smart Filters, plus “almost all” of Photoshop’s colour adjustment layers.
