Master 3D Creature Design with Gnomon’s new video

The Gnomon Workshop has released 3D Creature Design: ZBrush, KeyShot and Photoshop Techniques: a new video tutorial exploring Industrial Light & Magic concept artist Luis Carrasco‘s workflow.

The video, which lasts for over three and a half hours, follows Carrasco as he takes a simple sketch of a creature and turns it into a fully rendered 3D concept ready for presentation to an art director or client.

Carrasco begins work in ZBrush, where he sets out how to customise the interface to improve workflow, and shares a range of techniques for developing the sculpt more efficiently.

He then brings the model into KeyShot, rendering out basic passes to composite and paint over in Photoshop. The video explores how Carrasco creates textures, materials, lighting and a background for the creature.

About the artist
Luis Carrasco is a concept artist at Industrial Light and Magic, where he has worked on movies including Noah, Jurassic World and The Revenant.

As a designer for film, he collaborates with art directors on visual development across projects, and with VFX supervisors to help define the look of shots. The tutorial focuses on a deliverable asset of this kind.
