AnimSchool releases AnimSchool Picker for Maya

Online animation school AnimSchool has released AnimSchool Picker: a new Maya plugin that provides a GUI for selecting rig controls or geometry on 3D characters more quickly.

Users can select rig controls via the buttons in the picker, or vice versa: the corresponding buttons highlight whenever you make a selection in Maya.

Buttons can be moved to custom positions, while the GUI itself can be navigated with standard Maya hotkeys. Users can also set up custom buttons within AnimSchool Picker to select components, polygons or vertices.

Licensed for commercial use – but not Animation Mentor or Gnomon
The plugin is intended for “friends of AnimSchool”, so you can’t use it for courses at other online animation schools, or for online courses from conventional schools. However, it is available for commercial use.

The AnimSchool Picker is available now for Maya 2011 and above on Windows or Maya 2012 and above on Mac.

Users of Maya 2009 and 2010 can try the school’s standard character rig, Malcolm, which is also available to download for free under similar restrictions, and comes with abxPicker, an older version of the GUI.
