Act-3D releases free student version of Lumion

The current Lumion demo reel. Colleges can now get a free educational version of the visualisation software.

Act-3D has released a free educational edition of Lumion, its real-time visualisation tool. Unlike the existing Lumion Free, it is fully featured, and its output is not watermarked.

There is also an educational version of the new Lumion Pro (more or less the same, but with more entourage models, higher output resolutions and more post effects), which will set you back €299 (around $375).

Student versions of Lumion were previously sold commercially, priced on a contact-your-reseller basis. Owners of paid student licences of previous versions of the software get upgraded to Lumion Educational Pro for free.

Only tutors need apply
The educational editions are available now for 32-bit and 64-bit Windows XP and above. The full version of Lumion 2.5 Standard costs €1,499 ($1,875) while Lumion 2.5 Pro costs €2,999 ($3,750).

The only slight kink is that, if you’re a student, you can’t download the free version yourself: you’ll have to bug your tutor to place an order on behalf of your school or college.
