Project Dogwaffle team releases beta of PD Howler

The Project Dogwaffle team has just made a beta demo of the new version of its digital painting tool, PD Howler, available to download.

According to software author Daniel Ritchie, Howler has been heavily optimised for speed, particularly on multi-core architectures: “We were a little concerned our real-time features would come off as gimmicky, but we found after using them, they had artistic merit, and rather profound [merit] at that.”

The software also features a new GUI, more in line with other paint packages; new filters and a new lighting tool (shown above).

PD Howler is currently available at a pre-release offer price of $109. The software’s price will rise to $159 following its release later this year.

Updated 1 June: the software is now shipping, but is still available at a launch price of $119.
