Eye candy: Rockstar Games’ LA Noire debut trailer

Rockstar Games has posted the debut trailer for its hardboiled PS3 and Xbox 360 title, LA Noire.

In addition to its film noir stylings (and reportedly enormous development budget), the upcoming game marks the debut for the new ‘motion scan’ facial motion-capture system developed by Sydney’s Depth Analysis.

According to an article in Edge magazine earlier this year, the markerless capture system uses 32 cameras to record motion and texture data from an actor. Depth Analysis claims that it captures a subtlety of detail unprecedented in a videogame.

“We can use [the system] to get actors to lie, and the players can detect that they’re trying to hide something,” the company’s head of R&D, Oliver Bao, told Edge. “It’s like you’re talking to a real person.”
