Isotropix releases Clarisse iFX 4.0 SP5

Scene assembly in Clarisse iFX 4.0. The SP5 update extends the layout and look dev tool’s handling of Light Path Expressions and adds a new firefly filtering system, for more realistic, flexible rendered output.

Isotropix has released Clarisse iFX 4.0 SP5, the latest update to its layout, lighting and rendering software, extending support for Light Path Expressions and adding a new filtering method for fireflies.

Output variance and material lobe values in LPEs
Although Isotropix has been putting out service pack updates steadily since Clarisse iFX 4.0 was released earlier this year, SP5 is the largest in some time.

The update extends the software’s handling of Light Path Expressions, including the option to output the variance of LPEs for use in render denoisers that support variance as an input.

It is also possible to export lobe constant values – used in the Disney Principled, Physical Hair and clear coat materials – to simplify the process of baking textures during look development.

Isotropix has also introduced a new clamping method, which should ensure that the beauty pass is reconstructed more accurately from LPEs during compositing.

New firefly filter and improvements to the Standard material
Other changes in SP5 include a new firefly filtering attribute in Clarisse iFX’s path tracer, to reduce artefacts and noise in “difficult” lighting configurations.

The energy conservation model on the software’s Standard material has also been improved by using microfacet normals to compute Fresnel effects, which should result in more realistic renders.

Pricing and system requirements
Clarisse iFX 4.0 SP5 is available for Windows 7+, RHEL and CentOS 7 Linux and Mac OS X 10.9+. The update is free to users with active maintenance contracts.

For studios, new nodelocked licences cost $2,299 each; floating licences costs $2,999. Indie artists can buy a single nodelocked licence of Clarisse iFX for $999. Floating render node licences cost $549.
