Download MASD’s free Arnold to V-Ray scene converter

MASD – aka artist Mads Drøschler – has released Arnold Converter, a handy-looking free 3ds Max utility for converting scenes set up for rendering with V-Ray or Corona Renderer to render in Arnold.

Convert common V-Ray materials, maps and lights to their Arnold equivalents
According to Drøschler, the converter is intended to “optimise very old … shader code, so that the [3ds Max] viewport and Arnold can fetch changes and … work better and faster”.

The tool supports a range of common materials, shaders and lights, including the V-Ray standard, two-sided and Blend materials, the V-Ray Sky, and the V-Ray normal, dirt and HDRI maps.

You can see a full list of the features currently supported on the MASD website. Drøschler says that the scene conversion rules are being “continously added and improved over time”.

System requirements and availability
Arnold Converter has been tested with 3ds Max 2020. You can download the installer for free, and the source code is available on GitHub.
