Vjaceslav Tissen releases Simply Cloth Studio 2.0 for Blender

Games artist and tools developer Vjaceslav Tissen has released Simply Cloth Studio 2.0, a major new version of this popular cloth simulation and 3D clothing creation add-on for Blender.

The update rewrites the add-on “from the ground up”, streamlining the UI, simplifying workflow, and introducing a new adaptive wrinkle system.

A popular lightweight tool for creating 3D clothing in Blender
First released in 2020, Simply Cloth Studio is a popular cloth simulation add-on for Blender.

Although it can be used to create any kind of cloth object, including flags and drapes, it is probably best known as a simple, user-friendly tool for creating 3D clothing.

As with specialist software like Marvelous Designer, users can create garments by creating and sewing together pattern parts.

However, rather than working in a separate 2D Pattern Window, users draw the clothing parts directly around a readymade 3D character in the Blender viewport, then sew them together.

Simply Cloth Studio can then convert the stitched garment into a simulation-ready mesh that can drape realistically under gravity, and move with the character.

Users can control the result by adjusting material and simulation properties, and there are presets for common material types like cotton, denim, leather, silk, wool and rubber.

Simulations can also be baked to improve real-time playback.

Simply Cloth Studio 2.0: revamped UI, better workflow, and new adaptive wrinkle system
Simply Cloth Studio 2.0 rebuilds the add-on “from the ground up” for Blender 5.0.

Many of the changes are to improve workflow, introducing a more streamlined new UI, adding support for Blender’s Geometry Nodes system, and improving simulation performance.

However, there are new features, including an adaptive wrinkles system, which automatically generates realistic-looking folds and wrinkles in cloth, helping it drape more realistically.

At the time of writing, the online documentation hasn’t been updated, but you can see the workflow in the launch video at the top of the story.

Price and system requirements
Simply Cloth Studio 2.0 is compatible with Blender 4.0+. A single-user license costs $46.
