New tutorial: Digital Painting in Photoshop
The Gnomon Workshop has released Digital Painting in Photoshop, an essential beginner’s guide to the software, recorded by Concept Artist Dave Neale.
The workshop provides over six hours of video training.
Master the foundations of professional digital painting in Photoshop
Photoshop is a powerful tool for creating 2D images, but for beginners, its feature set can seem offputtingly vast.
In the workshop, Neale sets out to help artists understand the ways in which it can be used for digital painting, from illustration and concept art to matte painting and texture painting.
The techniques that he demonstrates are based on 20 years of experience using Photoshop daily while working for a wide – and diverse – range of clients, from Electronic Arts to Nestlé.
Neale begins by explaining how to set up the workspace – including his preferred Wacom settings, preferences, and shortcuts – and details the key tools he uses daily.
These include the brushes, adjustment tools, transform tools and selection tools that he uses to create concept artworks and illustrations.
He then puts theory into practice by demonstrating how to paint a character from start to finish.
Although the main aim of the workshop is to teach beginners the foundations of professional-level painting, professionals may also discover new tricks, such as creating multi-part actions, and using Smart Objects to transform images while retaining multi-layered folders.
As well as the training videos, viewers of the workshop can download Neale’s Photoshop file, Actions, and brushes.
