Tutorial: Create a Waterwheel Simulation in Houdini

The Gnomon Workshop has released Create a Procedural Waterwheel Simulation in Houdini, a comprehensive four-hour video tutorial recorded by VFX artist David Silberbauer.

The workshop reveals how to build a fully functional waterwheel with integrated fluid simulation in Houdini, and is suitable for artists of all levels of experience.

A beginner-friendly guide to procedural modeling and simulation in Houdini
In the workshop, Silberbauer provides a step-by-step guide to creating a animated waterwheel in Houdini, setting out a range of procedural modeling and simulation techniques.

Fluid simulation workflows covered include adjusting velcities to create robust simulations, randomising attributes to give more realistic results, and using vorticity for white water.

The tutorial explains how to turn your set-ups into Houdini Digital Assets (HDAs) to share with other artists.

As well as the technical details of the workflow, Silberbauer shares his thought process, providing insight into how to build Houdini set-ups that will enable you to iterate on shots efficiently in production.

In addition to the tutorial videos, viewers can download a Houdini Apprentice file of the completed scene.
