Boris FX releases Sapphire 2023.5

Orignally posted on 21 November 2022. Scroll down for news of the Sapphire 2023.5 update.

Boris FX has updated Sapphire, its suite of effects plugins for compositing and editing software.

Sapphire 2023.0 adds new PrismLens and UltraGrain effects, and a new DissolveUltraGlow transition.

Two new effects, one new transition, and 18 new preset lens flares
Sapphire 2023 adds two new effects: PrismLens and UltraGrain.

S_PrismLens replicates the effect of shooting through a physical glass prism, including options to replicate part of the frame – trackable using the integrated Mocha planar tracker – into linear or radial arrays.

S_UltraGrain replicates film grain, and comes with 79 presets mimicking analogue film stocks and the grain generated by digital cameras from manufacturers including Arri, Alexa, Red, Canon and Sony.

There is one new transition, DissolveUltraGlow, based on the existing UltraGlow effect.

The update also adds 100 new presets for existing effects, including 18 for the LensFlare effect.

Updated 14 April 2023: Boris FX has released Sapphire 2023.5.

Builder, Sapphire’s node-based framework for creating custom effects and transitions, gets a number of workflow improvements, including the option to set the value of one parameter to drive that of others.

It is also now possible to save custom effects as presets that can be shared across host applications.

The LensFlare plugin gets a further 12 presets, bringing the total to 145.

Pricing and system requirements
Sapphire 2023.5 is available for a range of compositing and editing software, including After Effects, DaVinci Resolve, Flame and Nuke, on Windows 10+, CentOS/RHEL 7+ Linux and/or macOS 10.14+.

New licences cost $1,695 for the Avid and Adobe/OFX editions, or $2,795 for a multi-host licence.
