RealityCapture is now free to schools and universities

Epic Games Slovakia’s launch video for RealityCapture 1.2, the latest version of the software. The firm now offers free educational master licences of the popular photogrammetry software to schools and universities.

Epic Games Slovakia is offering free master licences of RealityCapture, its popular photogrammetry software, to schools and universities. Students and staff can then use the software via the master account.

Free master licences replace the old educational discount for schools and colleges
We spotted the free educational licence when Epic Games Slovakia promoted it in its email newsletter this week, although it’s actually been available for a few months now.

A Wayback Machine search suggests that the change was made shortly after Epic Games acquired Capturing Reality in March, the developer having previously only offered discounts to selected schools.

The free educational licences are available on request, and applications have to be approved, although the online contact form suggests that you really only need a university email address to qualify.

Students and teachers aren’t eligible for their own individual free licences, and are advised to ask their school or college to apply for a master licence.

Pricing and system requirements
RealityCapture is available for Windows 7+ and Windows Server 2008+. It’s CUDA-based, so you will need a suitable Nvidia GPU.

For commercial users, perpetual Enterprise licences cost $3,750; pay-per-input (PPI) plans, where the software is free, but users buy credits to process scan data, cost $10 for 3,500 credits, or $20 for 8,000.
