The Gnomon Workshop has released Environment 3D Matte Painting Techniques, a detailed guide to 3D matte painting workflows, recorded by Cinesite environment artist Koke Nunez.

The intermediate-level workshop provides over eight hours of video training in World Creator, Blender, Nuke and Photoshop.

Discover advanced workflows for creating 3D digital matte paintings for VFX and motion graphics
In the workshop, Nunez sets out advanced techniques for creating 3D matte paintings, seamlessly blending 2D and 3D elements, creating realistic landscapes, and designing atmospheric elements.

Topics covered include camera projection, 3D modeling, texture painting, lighting and compositing.

Along with the technical aspects of matte painting, the workshop covers workflow optimisation, collaboration tips, and advice on how to meet client expectations efficiently.

As well as the tutorial videos, viewers can download the project files needed to follow the workshop.

The workshop uses free stock video from RDNE Stock Project, 2D assets from MattePaint, and 3D assets from KitBash3D’s free Mission to Minerva kit.
