Maxon releases Universe 5.1

Maxon has released Universe 5.1, the latest version of its online library of effects and transitions for editing and compositing software, adding native support for Apple’s M1 processors, and rebuilding the tools in C++.

New effects and presets for VFX and motion graphics artists
Unverse 5.1 is the second update in under a year, although Universe 5.0, released just three months after last June’s Universe 4.0, added only a single new feature: support for multi-frame rendering in After Effects.

Version 5.1 is also an under-the-hood update, adding native support for Apple’s M1 processors to improve performance on current Macs.

The Universe tools have also been ported from JavaScript to C++, which Maxon says will “[pave] the way for more powerful tools, creative options, and improved performance”.

Pricing and Availability
Universe 5.1 is available now for applications including After Effects and DaVinci Resolve. See a list of the versions of the host software supported here. It is rental-only, with subscriptions costing $199/year.
