Ephere ships Ornatrix V3

Ephere has released Ornatrix V3, the latest version of its hair, fur and feather system for 3ds Max, adding the option to model hair directly using poly tools and an improved preview in the Nitrous viewport.

Model hair with standard poly tools
Perhaps the biggest new feature is the option to model hair using mesh strips via the standard polygon modelling tools, then convert the geometry to hairs, in much the same way as Maya tool GMH2.

There is also now a more realistic automatic hair preview in 3ds Max’s Nitrous viewport: not exactly photorealistic, but certainly more detailed.

The toolsets for combing hair, symmetry and adjusting length have also been expanded; and there is a new vertical toolbar providing access to the Quick Hair object type and the standard hair modifiers.

Pricing and availability
Ornatrix V3 is available now for 3ds Max 2009 and above. A new licence costs $499; owners of Ornatrix V2 get the new version free or at a discount, depending on how recently they bought the software.
