The workshop provides a three hours of video training in Fusion.
A complete beginner’s guide to Autodesk Fusion for movie concept design
Although Fusion, Autodesk’s cloud-based design and modeling platform, is usually thought of as a CAD application, it is also widely used by entertainment artists.
In the workshop, Turvey provides a complete beginner’s guide to the powerful, easy-to-use tool, which he used in his concept art work on films including Dune: Part Two.
He begins with overview of the interface before setting out how to explore design ideas through simple 2D sketching in the Design workspace, and how to turn the 2D designs into 3D models using three different modelling modes: Solid, Surface, and Form.
Turvey then sets out how to create motion studies, animatics and model sheets in the Animation and Drawing workspaces, and how to apply materials and create presentation images of a design in the Render workspace.
Finally, he shows all of the techniques in practice in a demo project: modeling a sci-fi gun, the project file for which is available as a downloadable resource alongside the training videos.
