Xencelabs launches Pen Tablet Medium v2

Xencelabs has updated the Pen Tablet Medium, its professional pen tablet for CG artists.

The release introduces new versions of the Xencelabs pens that also work with the firm’s pen displays, and makes the devices compatible with HP Anyware for remote access.

The price of the tablet has also come down since the original release in 2021.

A new-ish player in the professional pen tablet and pen display market
Founded in 2019 by a team including former Wacom staff, Xencelabs has been making waves in the professional pen tablet market, with a growing range of devices.

Its first product, the original Pen Tablet Medium, was released in 2021, with our reviewer concluding that it was “nothing but a pleasure to use” for image editing, digital panting, texturing and 3D modeling.

It has since been joined by the Pen Tablet Small, and 16-inch and 24-inch pen displays.

Key specifications and price
As you can see from the comparison table above, the update leaves most of the core specs of the Pen Tablet Medium unchanged.

The main change is to the two accompanying pens, with the updated three-button and thin pens now working with both Xencelabs’ tablets and pen displays.

In addition, the Pen Tablet Medium v2 is now compatible with Anyware, HP’s remote access software, making it possible to map the tablet to an agent machine.

The price of the tablet has also come down by $30 since the original release, although the cost still falls between Wacom’s Intuos Pro – also updated this year – and the pro models of tradtionally lower-priced manufacturers like Huion and XP-Pen.

Price and system requirements
Xencelabs’ Pen Display Medium v2 has a MSRP of $249.99, or $329.99 bundled with the Quick Keys unit. It is compatible with Windows 7/11, many Linux distros, and macOS 10.13.
