Blender and 3DCoat tutorial: Designing a Military Aircraft

The Gnomon Workshop has released Designing a Military Aircraft, a guide to creating a believable 3D aircraft concept recorded by DNEG senior concept artist Nikolay Razuev.

The workshop provides 111 minutes of video training in Photoshop, Blender and 3DCoat, and is aimed at intermediate-level artists looking to learn how to speed up their workflow without sacrificing realism.

Master time-saving tricks to speed up your 3D vehicle design workflow
During the workshop, Razuev sets out his own workflow for designing vehicles for the entertainment industry, beginning by sharing tricks for sketching and shading initial concepts in Photoshop.

He then moves on to cover efficient techniques for modelling and texturing vehicles in 3DCoat and Blender, finishing by photobashing over the top of the 3D render in Photoshop to create the final image.

The tutorial focuses on how to create 3D concepts that provide the illusion of complexity yet which can be created from scratch in a reasonable amount of time.

Viewers of the workshop can download a PSD file of the texture and decals used, a Blender scene file containing the model, textures and HDRI, and the PSD file of the final concept image.
