Eye candy: the 2020 SpeedTree VFX reel

IDV has released its SpeedTree VFX Reel 2020: a two-minute compilation of the latest work created with SpeedTree Cinema, its 3D plant-generation software.

It’s dominated by The Lion King and the latest Star Wars movies – some of the most luxuriant examples of digital vegetation in cinema history – but recent Marvel, Jurassic World and Transformers movies feature, too.

As with the latest SpeedTree games reel, IDV has posted a full list of credits on its website, plus links to breakdown videos of key projects.

This time round, those include Scanline VFX’s breakdown of its work on Captain Marvel and, naturally enough, MPC’s VFX breakdown of The Lion King.

And unlike the games reel, there’s time to savour the beauty of the CG plants before they get blown up or run over, although there are a certain number of bangs, flashes and plane crashes even here.
