Motion-capture firm Dimensional Imaging (DI4D) has come a long way since its early days as medical imaging specialist, as its eye-catching new customer reel reveals.
The firm’s markerless facial capture tech – it’s based on photogrammetry and optical flow tracking, and requires no markers or UV make-up – has been used on some of the biggest recent games and movies.
The highest-profile project is undoubtedly MPC’s work on Rachael from the VFX Oscar-winning Blade Runner 2049, but the majority of the work on show here is from games.
That includes Blur Studio’s striking cinematics for Far Cry 5 and Halo Wars 2, but also Remedy Entertainment’s in-game recreations of actors Shawn Ashmore and Aiden Gillen from Quantum Break.
There’s also a digital recreation of another very identifiable real-world star, in the shape of Method Studios’ robotic version of Justin Timberlake, created for the promo for ‘Filthy’.
