Learn animation from Pixar’s Michal Makarewicz

The Animation Collaborative and Gnomon School of Visual Effects, Games + Animation have announced a two-day masterclass with Michal Makarewicz, directing animator at Pixar Animation Studios.

The event, which takes place at Gnomon’s Hollywood campus on 3-4 December 2016, sets out the workflows that Makarewicz has developed during his 13-year career at Pixar.

Beginning as an animator on The Incredibles, Makarewicz has since worked on movies including Cars, Wall-E, Toy Story 3, Brave and Inside Out, winning an Annie Award for his work on Ratatouille.

Master production-proven character animation workflows
Geared toward students and experienced animators alike, the masterclass discusses animation from a variety of artistic perspectives, breaking down even the most complex approaches into simpler elements.

Individual lectures cover topics ranging planning and blocking, refining animation, working with dialogue, individual body parts like the eyes and brows, and an overview of acting and performance.

Each one is illustrated with examples from Makarewicz’s own work, and that of other professional colleagues.

Accompanying live demos in Maya then illustrate how to incorporate the ideas discussed into your work “so that your ideas read clearly from blocking to polish”.

Students will also be shown tricks for keeping work clean in the Graph Editor throughout the animation process.
