Most of the independent animations we feature on CG Channel are short, but Beyond the Sea is shorter.
The animation, created by Gobelins students Cyrille Chauvin, Marthe Delaporte, Guillaume Dousse, Chloé Nicolay and Christine Shin, was the opener for this year’s Annecy festival, and clocks in under a minute.
But the short – a tale of an Irish boy who falls asleep on the Giant’s Causeway dreaming of America – packs a lot into 56 seconds, with echoes of the work of Japanese studios like Madhouse and Studio Ghibli.
