Eye candy: Hooked

Austrian studio Cybertime has relased Hooked, a nice little short about an octopus forced to take up beatboxing when his drumkit is snagged by a fisherman’s hook.

(Don’t look at me like that. This sort of thing goes on every day in the South Pacific.)

Intended partly as a test of Cinema 4D R13‘s new physical renderer, the animation rendered at a pretty reasonable 22 minutes per frame on a top-of-the-range Core i7-3960X workstation.

The studio has also released a making-of video, which you can see above. Although it’s a general overview, it’s nicely put together, and includes some details of the subsurface scattering set-up and character rig.

Among other fascinating factoids, you can also discover that the short took the six-person team four months to complete, fuelled by an average of 7.4 coffees per day.
