Eye candy: the new Unreal Engine next-gen games reel

On the very last day of 2020, Epic Games released its new sizzle reel of next-gen games being created using Unreal Engine, including some of the most anticipated PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X games of 2021.

As you might expect, it’s a good showcase for the graphical capabilities of Unreal Engine 4 – and a teaser for those of the upcoming Unreal Engine 5, due out in preview early this year.

At the photorealistic end of the spectrum, that means titles like Hogwarts Legacy, S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2 and the predictably gorgeous-looking Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II, while more stylised graphics, both Western and Eastern, are on show in Rare’s Everwild and Bandai Namco’s Scarlet Nexus.

There is also a smattering of games that have already been released, in the shape of PS5 launch titles like Epic Games’ own ubiquitous Fortnite, used as a test bed for many of the engine’s upcoming features.
