Download E*D Films’ free Scene Track exporter for Unity

Montreal animation studio E*D Films has released Scene Track: The Game Media Exporter, a free tool for recording real-time gameplay in Unity then exporting the animation data to other DCC tools in FBX format.

The tool can also export MIDI, video and image files.

Record animation data directly inside Unity and export it to DCC software for refining
Developed by E*D Films for concept work on animated TV series Elemented, Scene Track enables users to record gameplay data to Unity’s timeline, using traditional game controls.

The animation data can then be exported to DCC applications like 3ds Max and Maya as a standard, skinned FBX file, either to refine the motion, or for use offline.

The exporter can also output rendered video in MOV or MP4 format, MIDI audio, or still images in JPEG and PNG format, making it easier to use Unity as a tool for offline animation work.

“Game engines are not only powerful, but affordable for film-makers which makes them a huge asset to small studios like ours,” said E*D Films art and tech director Daniel Gies.

“In Unity, we finally saw an opportunity to realize some of our more ambitious ideas without having to hire more people; we just had to find a way to record within the engine.”

Pricing and availability
Scene Track is available now for Unity 2017+ on Windows and Mac OS X. You’ll need to register for a free account on E*D Films’ online store in order to download it. The source code is available on GitHub.
