Jasper Brekelmans has announced Brekel Pro PointCloud 2 and Brekel Pro Body 2: new versions of his low-cost point-cloud and full-body motion-capture tools, rewritten for the Kinect for Windows v2 sensor.

The new versions make use of the Kinect v2’s expanded field of view, giving a tracking range of 84° vertically and 54° horizontally, and can track up to six people instead of one – assuming they can all fit into that space.

According to posts by Brekelmans on CGTalk, the software now tracks 25 joints in the skeleton instead of 20, and offers “more anatomically correct joint positions, especially for the hips”.

Pricing and availability
Brekel Pro PointCloud 2 and Brekel Pro Body 2 are due to ship on 1 November. You’ll need to be running Windows 8. Both apps will be priced at $139, while the previous versions will remain on sale for $79 each.

Updated 6 November: Brekel Pro Body 2 and Brekel Pro PointCloud 2 are now shipping. Brekelmans has posted demo videos for the two applications (Pro Body 2, top of story; Pro PointCloud 2, above).

Brekelmans has also posted some interesting screenshots of research into multi-sensor set-ups. The work is currently in pre-alpha and is due for release after the next version of facial-tracking app Brekel Pro Face.

Updated 17 July 2015: All of the Brekel Pro v2 apps (including sister app Brekel Pro Face 2) now support the Oculus Rift VR headset for viewing both live and pre-recorded data streams, as shown in the video above.

In addition, Brekel Pro PointCloud 2 now comes with a free Unity script and shader for streaming point cloud data from disk and rendering it interactively in the Unity viewport, as shown in this video.
