Gnomon releases Making Frankenstein’s Monster

The Gnomon Workshop has released Making Frankenstein’s Monster: a complete guide to sculpting, texturing and rendering a photorealistic creature, recorded by Treyarch senior character artist Peter Zoppi.

A complete creature creation project
Over five hours of video, Zoppi demonstrates his creature design process from end to end, roughing out and rigging the model in Maya and sculpting high-frequency detail and painting diffuse maps in Mudbox.

Zoppi then transfers the monster back to Maya, exploring mental ray skin shader set-ups, environment and lighting set-ups, and how to prepare for multi-pass rendering.

The final renders are then brought into Photoshop for final compositing, color correction and post-processing.

About the artist
Peter Zoppi is a senior character artist at Treyarch/Activision, where he has worked for the past eight years on titles including Call of Duty: Black Ops, Call of Duty: Black Ops II and the James Bond franchise.
