The Gnomon Workshop has released Making Frankenstein’s Monster: a complete guide to sculpting, texturing and rendering a photorealistic creature, recorded by Treyarch senior character artist Peter Zoppi.
A complete creature creation project
Over five hours of video, Zoppi demonstrates his creature design process from end to end, roughing out and rigging the model in Maya and sculpting high-frequency detail and painting diffuse maps in Mudbox.
Zoppi then transfers the monster back to Maya, exploring mental ray skin shader set-ups, environment and lighting set-ups, and how to prepare for multi-pass rendering.
The final renders are then brought into Photoshop for final compositing, color correction and post-processing.
