Boris FX acquires Vegas Pro, Sound Forge and Acid Pro

Boris FX has acquired Magix’s complete Vegas Creative range of professional video and audio editing tools: video editor Vegas Pro, audio editor SoundForge, and music software Acid Pro.

The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Boris FX has also released Vegas Pro 2026, its own new version of the software, adding GPU decoding, ProRes RAW support, new 2D and 3D titling tools, and an AI-based Z-depth model.

The firm has also launched two new subscription packages, Vegas Pro Plus and Vegas Pro Ultimate, which add more features, and come bundled with other Boris FX products.

The latest of Boris FX’s acquisitions of other VFX and motion graphics tools developers
The buyout is the latest in a string of acquisitions by Boris FX. Over the past decade, the firm has acquired most of its current product lines from other developers, supplementing its own Continuum VFX plugins with other effects, tracking, roto and audio production tools.

This time around, it hasn’t acquired another entire developer, just a product range.

Magix continues as a separate company, and continues to sell its consumer products.

Vegas Pro, which Boris FX has acquired, is also unusual in that it’s one of the host applications for many of Boris FX’s other products, including Continuum, Sapphire and Mocha Pro.

New version of Vegas Pro already available
Unlike a lot of bigger CG software developers, Boris FX has a good track record of maintaining the tools it acquires as independent products, and continuing to develop them.

The firm has already made a start with Vegas Pro, releasing Vegas Pro 2026, a new version of the software.

It’s a fairly beefy update, adding hardware-accelerated AVC and HEVC 4:2:2 decoding on NVIDIA Blackwell GPUs, ProRes RAW support, and a new AI-based Z-depth model.

Boris FX tends to integrate core technologies from its other software into the products it acquires, and Vegas Pro 2026 is no exception, gaining 2D and 3D titling tools from Continuum.

Some features restricted to subscribers, but perpetual licenses still available
What is different this time around is that the firm has introduced new subscription packages, Vegas Pro Plus and Vegas Pro Ultimate, and restricted other new features to subscribers.

Subscriber-only features include – not surprisingly – access to online asset library Storyblocks, but also offline AI transcription and text-to-speech tools.

However, perpetual licenses of all three Vegas Creative products remain available – the cost has actually fallen in some cases – and Vegas Pro Plus is also available as a perpetual license.

Vegas Pro Plus and Vegas Pro Ultimate come bundled with other Boris FX products, including Mocha tracking tools, Particle Illusion, and CrumplePop audio plugins.
