Neat add-on Baga Ivy Simulation creates animated ivy in Blender
After years of requests, I can finally say it:
Yes ! The ivy grows.

Architectural visualisation artist and tools developer Antoine Bagattini has released Baga Ivy Simulation, the third major version of his plugin for generating procedural vegetation in Blender.
The update adds a much-requested feature to the add-on, which was previously known as Baga Ivy Generator: the option to create growth animations.
Good-looking, easily controllable 3D ‘ivy’ for visualization and VFX
Released in its current form in 2023, Baga Ivy Simulation uses Blender’s geometry nodes system to generate 3D vegetation procedurally to cover any underlying mesh.
Despite its name, the plugin actually generates 70 different species of climbing plants, including Clematis, Wisteria, Bougainvillea, roses and hops.
Users can guide the growth of the plants by drawing paths on a mesh’s surface: both to direct the growth of the central stem, and to define the extent of side shoots.
The vegetation is compatible with Blender’s Eevee and Cycles render engines, with a proxy system to improve interactive performance.
Baga Ivy Generator 3: new simulation system makes it possible to create growth animations
To that, version 3 of the plugin adds a much-requested feature: to be able to animate the growth of the plants.
The new Simulation mode is more complex than the existing Procedural mode, requiring a two-step baking process, but also generates more realistic results, in which the ivy “follows the surface morphology precisely and can even detach or fall under gravity”.
Although updates to version 2 of the plugin have been free so far on Superhive, version 3 is a paid update, which Bagattini attributes to the rising cost of development.
System requirements
Baga Ivy Simulation (Baga Ivy Generator 3) is compatible with Blender 3.3+. It now costs $79 on Superhive. The update is free to anyone who bought version 2 in the past year.
Version 1 of the ivy generator is available free, both as a standalone add-on for Blender 3.0, and as part of the free BagaPie modifier for later versions of Blender.
