Blender accepted into Google Summer of Code

Blender has been accepted into the Google Summer of Code program for 2011.

The three-month program offers student developers stipends to write code for open-source software projects. Students will be paired with mentors from the Blender development community during the course of the project.

Blender was previously selected for GSoC support in 2009 and 2010, leading to significant under-the-hood improvements, particularly to rendering speed and instancing.

GIMP has also been selected for GSoC support.
