Eye candy: Maxon’s 2018 Cinema 4D showreel

Not content with announcing a version 20 of the software and commissioning a beautiful new short to show off its key features, Maxon has just released its latest Cinema 4D showreel.

The three-minute video shows off the best new work created in the software, ranging from blockbuster movies to medical animation, by way of some pretty crazy experimental work.

Motion graphics, movie magic, and some mighty strange experimental animation
As you might expect, motion graphics makes up a good proportion of the reel, with some standout work from genre stalwarts ManvsMachine, along with younger contenders Lightfarm and Ranger & Fox.

TV and film work is thinner on the ground – Blade Runner 2049 makes it in there, if only via Territory Studio’s UI designs – although the reel does include Imaginary Forces’ amazing broadcast title sequences.

On the experimental fringes, there is an amazing photorealistic short from Taehoon Park, new work from the ever-wonderful Beeple, and Time for Sushi, David Lewandowski’s utterly deranged demonstration of what happens when motion capture goes bad.

It’s a neat digest of some of the most colouful and creative CG work to have been created over the past year, and one to replay a few times to catch all of the artists’ credits. Grab a coffee and enjoy it.
